The Transit has been around for over 40 years now and comes in many different sizes and styles here we summarise the key model types
Ford Transit SWB
Now comes with 13 different engine / drive train types all of which have their own benefits including Turbo Diesel, Petrol and even an LPG / Biofuel option. It comes with a max load length of 2582mm and a gross payload weight of up to 1746kg (depending on model)
Transit SWB 260

Depending on the heights of loads you may be carrying and the type of driving you are used to will help you choose the front wheel drive or rear wheel drive options. The front wheel drive Transits have a lower floor for better access than the rear wheel drives as well as a low or medium roof options.
Aside from the engine types and payload weights the Transit has practical features such as storage for an A4 folder, facia mounted gear stick, faica mounted tray and two 2-litre bottle side door pockets.
Ford Transit MWB
The Medium wheel base Transit has a 367mm longer load length than the SWB Transit and a maximum gross payload of 1796kg (50kg more than the SWB Transit)
The other benefits on top of what the SWB offers are:
- choice of three roof heights
- option to have a double-cab verion with 3 extra seats
- larger load doors
- more engine options
- the Transit MWB 350 version
Ford Transit LWB
The long wheel base Transit has a 450mm longer load length than the medium wheel Transit and a greater load capacity though a marginally lighter maximum gross payload weight of 1737kg (59kg less than the MWB Transit) though can carry up to 4 euro pallets.
Ford Transit Jumbo
The Transit Jumbo is the exactly what it says - it is the Jumbo sized Transit for the really big loads it has a load length of 4070mm (nearly double a SWB Transit) and a maximum gross payload of up to 2178kg which will fit 5 euro pallets and standard 4m carpet rolls with ease.
The Transit Jumbo comes with the option of single or dual rear wheels. The dual rear wheel 430 version can carry the max stated 2178kg payload while the single rear wheel version can carry a maximum 1500kg.

Ford Transit Double Cab
The Double Cab variety of the Transit is an ideal solution for businesses who need to transport both equipment and people with ease.
The Double Cab comes in SWB, MWB and LWB varieties and all have three extra seats (compared tot he standard van configuration for that type)
The crew compartment and the load compartment are completely seperate with the load compartment sealed off for extra security.
The standard sliding side load door is replaced with a glazed version for passenger comfort as shown below

Ford Transit Tipper One Stop
The Tipper variety of the Transit is moving away from the standard Transit look and more torwards the flat bed style of van whilst maintaining the distinctive Transit cab


The Tipper comes in three types; the standard Tipper (shown above), the dropside and the Box Van (shown above) each of which gives you the usual wide choice of options and engines that come with standard Transit vans including the single and double cab options (excludes box van variety). The Tipper comes in so many different varieties all based on the Transit Chassis Cab that you'll easily find a combination that is exactly right to suit your needs.
Ford Transit Chassis Cab
If you have specific requirements for what you need the load space of your van to look like or do then Ford have an option for you too - the Chassis Cab. This is exactly what it says, it is a cab on a chassis and you get to put your own cargo area on the back. The Chassis Cab comes in a choice of single or double cab and SWB, MWB and LWB varieties to suit all needs
