The VW Transporter
The Transporter range has been in existence since the 1950's, giving it plenty of pedigree and has become one of the most common vans in the UK and like the Ford Transit is the standard model Volkswagen van, as the Transit is the Ford standard model. It comes in many different varities such as the standard Panel Van, double cab, window van, transporter shuttle (mini bus) and the Sportline. Here we will list some of the basic attributes of each of the versions of the Transporter.
The Transporter panel van
The Transporter comes with a choice of two engine types the 1.9 litre TDI PD (85 or 104PS) and the 2.5 litre TDI PD (130 or 174PS). The latest incarnation of the Transporter is the T5 which is longer, wider and higher than the equivalent T4. It comes with a choice of low and medium roof heights on the SWB version and low, medium and high on the LWB - the LWB is 400mm longer than the SWB.

LWB low roof: 1410mm height, 1692mm width, 2753 length

LWB high roof: 1940mm height, 1692mm width, 2353 length
The payload capacity varies considerably by van type from 795kg to 1,245kg
